Information on the page applies to specialized equipment that extends or routes traffic on the network. Requirements and procedures are in support of governing Columbia University IT Policies and CUIMC Information Security Procedures.
All data network access devices must be specified, configured, and administered by Core Resources. This includes communications switches and hubs, routers, network address translation devices, firewalls, communications cabling, and wireless access points.
- Any network access device (including any mini-hub in an office or on a lab bench) found connected to the network and not administered or already permitted in writing by Core Resources will be disconnected.
- Cabling vendors must conform to Hospital and University policies and Core Resources requirements.
- Individual cabling and/or network port installations can be requested by following instructions for Connect to the Wired Network.
- Large scale project requests that require cabling, Telecom Room access, and network port considerations should be directed to core-cumc@nyp.org.
- Campus housing locations may not use routers or other networking equipment with CUIMC network(s). Students may purchase broadband connections from a commercial Internet Service Provider for personal use in their rooms.
